Why are we playing on Friday?

$ of course, but the experience can be different in a positive way as well. Instead of 20 teams playing the usual timed 4 inning game, if you want to have 20 teams playing 7 inning games, you need an extra day.

The other silly part is paying for the tourney that you are not going to be playing in due to a conflict with school time.

Playing on Friday morning and waiting to play one or two championship games on Sunday. WHAT ???? Couldn't get the field permits for Sunday???? Parks were close??? Stop the stupidity. It is a money grab with no concerns for the students. Period.

Honest question - have you ever coordinated a softball tournament? Of any size? I haven't so I can't answer your questions knowledgably so I'm not going to try. I will say these organizations have to pay for their facilities they use and the field staff usually as well. They pay for travel for umps and many umps are coming from out of town due to shortages. I'm not going to make blanket statements when I haven't seen the financials. I know we are playing TNJ in a couple weeks and that is a Friday start. We travel 6+ hours to get to that tournament and I appreciate being able to leave by noon on Sunday to get home. That's why I am willing to take my daughter out to play on a Friday..... I just think you are losing your poop for a very trivial thing. Playing on Friday doesn't happen all the time and doesn't happen in every PGF - we are going to Diamond Direction in Rock Hill and the tournament is the 23-24. So perhaps it does have something to do with the number of teams? Number of fields? Number of umps? Number of games? Number of innings per game? (time per game).

If you want to have a two day tournament you can do it..just limit the number of teams you let in..but that would also reduce profit.

Look these are private entities and I don't see the word student in any of their mission statements. I also don't see Apple building in measures to automatically shut off their phones for school-age kids during school hours...it isn't their job to ensure our kids are properly educated.

All of that is true. I do think there is costs associated with the extra day of field use as well but, yes, the ultimate goal is profits. In a "capitalistic society" that is what everyone wants - right? I mean if we wanted to get political, which many people love to do here, we could say limiting tournaments to Saturday & Sunday is somewhat of a socialist move isn't it?? Because it's for the "greater good" - but of who? What about all those homeschooled kids who have flexible schedules? Quite a conundrum.
