Oh, I quite agree. The emphasis should always be on getting the kids outside with friends having fun. It's kind of sad to see the sharp dropoff in participation in youth sports once kids hit high school.

Address as a team? Individually ? How about the players that don't have this problem?? Subject them to the issue. If your best player are confident studs should you subject them to the weakness that other may have? I guess the the most confident studs might care less about the weaker minded players. Probably not.

Address as a team if it's a team issue. If it's a single player, address her individually. One benefit to team captains (at older ages, anyway), if they're good captains, is you can go to them to see if there even is a team issue.

A coach's job is to notice everything. I think you'd be surprised how often players don't really know (or care) what's going on with another player. Sally's not too worried about Susie pouting after her at bat because Sally is worrying about her own at bat.

That's because there aren't any places to play for the kids who don't make their HS teams and aren't good enough or don't want to play on club/travel teams.

It's self-deprecating. Sorry, had to do it.

And the "33% Rule" along with other Sue Enquist videos should be required viewing and discussion for every young athlete (and team).

Saw this post and I've been watching videos of her for over a half hour at this point. Really good stuff.
