difference in Minor League Baseball, depending on the league, is closer to 0.3 -0.4

Seems a bit high but it makes sense that it is higher since the talent level for some Leagues can be quite disparate compared to MLB. My 0.2 additional for TB might be a bit low then..lol.

I don't know the baseball/softball comparison here either. This is probably one of the few things that doesn't translate well, given the smaller diamond. I suspect walks would be similar but BABIP/hits would be higher. I'd suspect this means fielding is more important in softball, and maybe at the higher levels the disparity would be less, but I bet the gap is wider.

Of course, errors don't reflect in WHIP, so depending on what's happening out there, and how reliable the scorers are, a pitcher's WHIP might not be affected at all.

Even though exit velocities are higher in baseball, they don't scale perfectly to the diamond size differences and men have larger range so this is probably true.

While errors are not counted but they will increase whip from facing extra batters.
I think Reduction in errors*(whip/3).
Example .25 fewer errors/inning *(1.5/3) = .125
I think the same would hold true for throwing more runners out, steeling or advancing.
Better defenders might make more/same errors due to the fact they get to more balls.

It’s easier to pitch when you know you don’t have to strike everybody out so while whatever metrics you were using to determine that “she wasn’t doing anything different” may not have changed, she still may have been pitching better..

Sure. She had plenty more confidence and enjoyed the game more.

Just mean she didn't change technique or mechanics or have a growth spurt or anything.

@uncdrew mentioned WHIP. In MLB the difference between the worst and best defensive teams has been shown to be about 0.1 in WHIP. Now in his case the difference between the team he went to and the previous team might be larger than best and worst defensive teams in MLB so an additional 0.1 or 0.2 might be possible. Of course this is assuming the people doing the scoring were doing it correctly (in both cases).

Just out of curiosity @uncdrew, what was the difference in WHIP you saw?

The last season of team A was 2.083
First season with team B was 1.042
This season with team B (70+ games, 150 innings pitched) was .960

She is getting better as a pitcher (I think). She works hard, takes lessons, loves pitching. Then again, I assume batters are getting better too.

Good grief.. you piss off the person doing GC for team A? :ROFLMAO:

Walks per inning about the same in both cases?

Yeah, it's a pretty drastic change.

ERA on Team A was 5.380. BBI (walks per inning) was .421
ERA on Team B was 0.875. BBI was .375

So I'm guessing my daughter improved a lot between those seasons. Mentally mostly, perhaps.

But the defense really is night/day. Bloopers and flares are caught. Infielders charge ground balls and make outs. Runners are thrown out from the outfield.

And that scorekeeper for the old Team A? Me. :p. I would sit and grumble as I had to give hits to all the wimpy little balls that our defense couldn't deal with.

Yeah sometimes I forget how lousy B (or lower) 12U can be even though once in a while DD's 14U team looks like a Benny Hill show out there..
