There are situations where you don't want to swing at the first strike, but yea, for the most part, I agree with you.

Interesting tactic
Not swinging at first strike.
What situations would you consider not swinging at it?

Anyone share to this?!

Your pitcher just completed a tough inning, it is 100 degrees, the 1st two batters of the inning swung at the first pitch and it is late in the game and you are up by a run or two...if you disagree then take it up with Gasso who did this a few times in the WCWS after calling time to give her pitcher even more of a breather...

If we're up and the pitcher throws a fat one 👉swing.
Any downside?

We need to produce because we're behind👉swing.
Any downside?

The pitcher cant find the plate and finally does👉swing.
Any downside?

(aside from any hit in an at bat becoming an out)
Any downside to swinging?

Just for conversation

Hitters gotta hit. And when you are a big fish in a small pond you better be a big zone hitter.

At the next level, it does seem like many coaches are wanting swings only late in the count. Saw it all spring. Saw teams taking first pitch strikes, especially change ups all game long.

I sarcastically told my wife ”apparently the plan is to only swing when you have two strikes and they expect you to hit it over the fence”.

If it’s a meatball over the plate? Sure, send it.

If it’s on the outside and hitter isn’t confident there? Take it and look for the next one.

If the game is late, pitch count is high, and seeing pitcher struggling? Work to run up the count.

If hitter has been reading pitcher all game and getting hits? Swing away.
