This is what I suspected when I wrote this post. When I bought this glove my DD had not been playing long. I learned how to break in a glove about a million years ago when people did things like oil the crap out of it and shove it under your mattress. (I have since been reformed) I didn't go to that extreme, but I know I didn't do it right. Sometimes the ball will be loose when the glove is closed around it. So I think you are right, there just really isn't much of a pocket.Going back to the drops. I have seen this happen when the glove's pocket has not formed correctly or the glove is flat as a pancake. Never lay down your glove on it's side either. Always palm facing down, but it's not easy with a 1st base base mitt. Store it in DD's bag with a ball in the pocket.
This is a hotly contested point that some people have a lot of energy around. I'm no expert, but in short, many people feel that baseball/softball gloves are basically interchangeable. The main difference being finger stall size.Is this a Baseball mitt? And you are surprised the larger softballs are popping out?
I posted a thread a few weeks back about using a baseball or softball catcher's mitt while catching my daughter. I used to be of the mind you had to have a sport specific mitt or glove, but I have since changed my tune. So long as you break the pocket in with a softball, the mitt will form to the larger ball without issue. Break it in with a baseball, and your pocket will not handle a softball. This is a hotly contested point that some people have a lot of energy around. If I were in the market for a new 1B mitt for softball, it would 100%, without a doubt be a Rawlings DCT pattern baseball mitt!Is this a Baseball mitt? And you are surprised the larger softballs are popping out?
but the "minimal words to sound smarter" approach displayed by a few posters on here is so convincing..If I were in the market for a new 1B mitt for softball, it would 100%, without a doubt be a Rawlings DCT pattern baseball mitt!
