Absolutely !! It needs to be a reaction which is hard to do if they are assigned a universal hand pivot.

Agree about the UPP, but It shows me that intent plays a big role in getting the barrel to the ball in the swing. By intent, I'm mean intent to not just swing the bat and hit (Maybe true for a emergency hack), but to swing fast and hard. As some say, do damage.

I think intent is right on the money! But intent of up and down and direction of release is what the ‘arm’ action, that a few covet as gospel is.

w that said.. Miggys thought is get on top and inside correct? Do we agree on that?

if that is the case then what do you think his arm actions are showing us?

I'm not sure what his thoughts are, but the idea of "get on top" and "inside" i feel is the goal of majority of hitters.

As far as his arm action, I think they are just supporting his intentions of what he is trying to do with his hands. By that, it seems that he is using his hands to deliver the barrel to the ball as quickly as possible. Don't know if that lines up with anybodies view of the swing, its just what I see.

Late ‘trapped/free‘ hands

vs on time free hands

I'm not seeing how the hitter on top is late with his hands. It seems to me he just got to his spot early based on the pitch timing wise (How does this = trapped hands) vs cabrera had better timing on his particular pitch.

Trapped hands in my mind is someone who never gets to their spot and has to force their hands out of "being trapped" due to faulty sequence. Right or wrong 🤷‍♂️

No no no, not at all. Actually enjoying the discussion. One question i have for you on your hitters before and after. I think i see the stretch you say she is creating, but correct me if i am wrong, in the after, she starts with a handset closer to the middle of her body (more to the front maybe a better way to say it frontal plane wise), which then 'stretches' back until 'go'. Otherwise i dont see many other significant changes. If you can help me see what i am missing. Not saying it isn't a better swing, but just not sure how to interpret.

The slop in the new swing is from trying to get the core/body to power the swing, or fire first. It should be stretch created and the hands TTB backwards first. That releases or triggers the lowerbody which is ready to go because it is coiled. The scap/upperbody is stretched and ready to go as well before the hands start.

It looks like the catcher is about to reach across his body, outside, while the Cabrera is hitting an inside pitch.

please show us a student of yours doing it the ‘right’ way Shawn. Or even your own personal swing will suffice.
