USSSA Power Rankings

Do you think the USSSA Power Rankings are somewhat accurate? I know the points rankings go by who is actually playing UTRIP games but I was curious what you all thought.

Not at all. Our girls have used them for bragging rights over the years, but they really are not an indicator of the best teams at an age division

So, if you see a team with a 1200 rating verses one with an 800, you really just disregard that as an indicator for an upcoming game?

Lets consider 16U level. Around here some teams will register 15U, some will register 16B some will register 16A. All three of those teams could play a 16 A tournament.

Team #1: For the sake of argument let's say that the 15U team is 4-0 against 15U, 6-0 against 16B, and 0-10 against 16 A. Overall record 10-10.

Team #2: The 16 B team is 5-0 against 15U, 5-0 against 16 b and 0-10 against 16 A. Overall record 10-10.

Team #3: The 16 A team is 10-10 against top talented from across the country at the 16 A level of invite only tournaments and showcases. Overall record 10-10.

The "In-Class" record of teams 1 and 2 are better, and their power rankings will be higher than team #3. If you are a 16 A team playing in a tournament against these teams which one would you least like to face in an elimination game? I'm guessing the one with the lower power ranking(team #3).

Teams that play a lot of USSSA like to look at the power ratings, but in the grand scheme of things they are meaningless....to many really good teams do not play USSSA or play very little. We may play one or two tournaments a year with them. It will be interesting to see how their new Nationals in Kansas City will be received, but their World Series in Orlando is a B-level event.
