How much time....
Is the question you have to ask yourself are willing to put in to improve your skills.
And
How much time do you think a coach has to individually technically look at players to help each one individually?

Video is an added resource for everybody!

As to you making a point of how expensive travel ball is.
Would think a coach taking extra time to oversee the teams facilitation would be a good thing.
To use resources is a good thing.
Especially at no extra financial cost out of you the payers pocket.

For a lot of folks
Softball is more than
What you do at practice.

Heres another perspective
On time~ example
~You can get your swings in at practice.
Say 2 days a week.
Or
You can do that and add 2 more days a week on your own.
It costs the same out of pocket to play for the team.
Most of the time the players who put more time into hitting will improve faster.
Eventually skill level determines who plays when and where at all levels.

Which is more important.
Your financial investment?
Or
Time?

Remember come tournaments
The more you win the more games your team plays.
The cost for the tournament is the same either way.
I don't dispute the videos are added resources but it shouldn't affect playing time.

And for a lot of folks it's what you do at practice.

Show them at games. You can be the best player at drills but struggle in games. I've seen this thousands of times.

If you know the requirements up front, then it's your choice. Everyone can use extra work but it's up to that player.

A lot of this depends on a person's point of view.

Some people believe that it is the coaching staff's responsibility to make DD or DS a better player.

It's my belief that it is a coaching staff's responsibility to provide the training, resources, and opportunity for DD or DS to become a better player provided they are also willing to focus their time and energy on that goal. Shared responsibility from both parties. Providing the names and numbers of some hitting or pitching coaches can be construed as providing resources. It's then up to the player/parents to decide if they want to participate.

YMMV...
