Dd is really bummed out that her knee injury is going to keep her in the dugout for the remainder of our summer tournaments. We're looking for arm, shoulder, and wrist drills to keep her arm in shape while she can't bend or put any weight on the left knee.

Take the month off. She needs a month off a year anyway, just take it now instead of in December or whenever she normally would.

She can do spins, that never hurts, to keep her callouses up and work on her finger strength. I don't like breaking down the pitch any more than that. Too many interdependencies.

CJ,

In the garage, assuming a garage, put her on a barstool; or chair with no arm rests. Have put her glove and hand on her stride knee, glove open and palm down. *trying to duplicate around where the glove might be if a batter hits a line drive back at her.

You use a tennis racket and stand back around 12 to 15 feet in front. Have a 5-gallon bucket full of wiffle balls or brightly colored rolled up socks (yellow preferred if you can find that many), the kind with the holes, and hit the at her. High, middle , low, to tyhe left and to the right. Start off hitting them slow and gradually pick up the speed. Keep picking up the speed until you KNOW she is catching them at least twice as fast as she will ever get one back at her in a game.

If she is able to on the chair, make the windmill circle and hit the ball / socks at her as she reches the hip.

Catch or deflect every hiot ball / sock.

If one is hit too her too far to the side or too high, let it go and DONT FALL OFF THE CHAIR.

Work on the self-defense skills!

My DD was in a full left leg cast last year at this time. We got her a good "stress" ball for hand strength and boredom. A few yoga bands to exercise her upperbody (they will be usefull for PT after as well). We used a folding chair to have her work on arm circles until she was out of the cast and weight bearing again. After that, she started working on her butterflys and staying tall without transfering wieght to the left leg (obviously avoid the drop balls). Besides that, she kept her hand - eye coordination up by a "soft" ball into the air while she was on her back.

Hope she recovers well.
