I disagree!

EVERYONE knows the best place to call balls and strikes is from a bucket just outside the dugout.

There is an obscure rule in most rule sets. If a pitched ball is slightly below the batter's waist and goes directly over the center of home plate, the umpire can use the point on back of the plate for reference, it is optional for the umpire to call it a strike even if the batter doesn’t swing. I think the optional part throws parents off.
