Just to add to my previous post, I just talked to my daughter and she said the popping feeling and pain was on the outside of the shoulder near the top and is a little sore if she pushes on it now. Also with her arm raised and bent, like when your making a muscle, it hurts kind of on the backside of the shoulder closer to the top. She will be resting it for now, and we will see what our schools sports trainer says. I just have her take ibuprofen now for the inflamation and minor pain, and use a gel cold pack on it off and on through the day. Any other ideas, please do let me know. The 3 hours of volleyball after pitching the other night I am sure was not good for it either, as she said she was setting the ball almost the entire time, and that has her working her arms up and over her head.

Rob,

If anything 'Pops' that means you have some inflammation going on. Push it past that point, somethings got to give and it usually gets serious at that point. Could be the bicept ligamate, could be something else. If it is popping and hurting, it needs to be checked out.

I would go with ice, 20 on, 20 off, 20 on, 20 off, 20 on, 20 off and then stop.

ONLY ICE AFTER SHE IS DONE THROWING FOR THE DAY. NEVER BETWEEN INNINGS OR GAMES IN A GAME DAY, THAT IS BEGGING FOR AN INJURY.

ICE IS THERAPY FOR AN INJURY. If you have to use ice, you have an injury on your hands. Treat it as such.

If it is in the back side of the shoulder, it could be a muscle injury or something else in the shoulder complex, treat it seriously and get to an Ortho Dr.

School sports trainers are not in the business of diagnosing injuries. Go to a good Physical Therapist or an Ortho Dr. with sports specific experience.

Hal,
Thanks for the reply. This sports trainer is employed by the local Sport & Spine clinic. She is a therapist with them and works with just sports injuries. I just think it is a good starting point. She will be honest and send us to a doctor if she dont know or isnt sure of what is wrong. She will get it looked at and hopefully nothing major is wrong.

Thanks,
Rob

Going to a specialist was a good idea. so far with your description of the injury,it is not so bad because it's not painful when she's not pitching. Therapy will (hopefully) remove the pain to remove the discomfort. The important thing is to strengthen her rotator cuff, shoulders, upper back after therapy to avoid future injuries. Proper warm-up before pitching and cool-down and flexibility exercises after training and games will help with unwanted injuries.
