Can’t recall when the rule changed, but my dd learned to slap as a sophomore in HS (she is a college sophomore now) and was instructed not to step over the lines back then. If taught correctly it isn‘t too difficult to stay within the box.
If slapping coaches aren’t teaching to the rules then they are doing a disservice to their students.

If slapping coaches was within the rules, we might have the answer to the thread about runners skipping third base. 
If an umpire is allowed to slap 1 coach from each team up to once a game. Maybe a lot of these bs arguments would go away.
