how to fix timing too early on a player who's bat speed has increased a lot

It's fairly simple. Full EXTENSION after contact. DD had a habit as many younger kids do. They fold their arms around their and hit their back. They seen some older kid doing it and they think that's what to do. I had her over exaggerate the swing which leads to more torque, which forces more rotation. She would let go of the bat with her right hand as her left hand kept going.

No extension here. Early extension, or when kids over-emphasize extension, makes many kids disconnect early and get long - making the inside pitch hard to hit.

This is the part I was trying to get her to. Maybe my term full extension wasn't described correctly. Perhaps full rotation.

Gotcha. Totally agree there. Full rotation looks different for every kid, but every kid would benefit from getting to their version of full IMO. I was more talking about the “extension out front” and the “stop at extension” drills I see so many do.

Watch Cornbreads DD double video vs HR videos. Inside vs outside. The ball goes where her bellybutton is pointing at contact. That's connected.
The show me your back tee drill is good for finishing your swing and using all your power but your not going to swing that way on an off speed or outside pitch come game time.

Good points. The rotation must have direction otherwise your just spinning.

Don't have any film to post this morning, we agreed I wouldn't tape her because she's convinced it's "bad luck" lol, so I kept my word and she went 7 for 7 (didn't have a swing and miss) and timing was much better yesterday, she had one ball off the end of the bat but was hit hard enough to find outfield grass, and hit a few really hard ones that reached the fence.

I like my hitters to stay more middle in their load and not sway back towards the catcher as much. If the hips drift back in the load then they will usually drift back forward causing you to be early/jumpy. Watch Trout as he loads. The hips don’t go backwards at all.

What's your opinion of this swing?
