Some rec orgs have rule exceptions that forbid this but all the major sanctions allow it. Agree with Coach James, it's a strategic part of the game. We also have had success with a move where the batter shows bunt, then pulls back, then drag bunts. After slashing a few times team get complacent thinking we won't really bunt. Another reason is if you have a runner on 2nd you want to steal over but 3b is playing deep and SS isn't covering. Knocking on wood I've coached hundreds of games and never seen a player hurt on this play. Seen a lot of nice hits that got by the 3b because she was drawn in though!

What I see in College is the batter setting up in a bunt before the pitcher begins their pitching motion then setup to swing as soon as they start their motion. I do not have an Issue with this at any level.

For at least 10U Rec. and below I do not like the batters squaring after the pitcher starts their motion then swinging away.
