Can one person coach 2 travel teams successfuly?

We have two teams in our state that do or did it! One is very successful with both teams, He mixes and matches players from both teams, the younger pitcher will play up as second pitcher on older team. Another Club team tried it and it didn't last the whole year. His older team folded because he gave more time to the younger team as he had a duaghter on that team.
