In Pic 6ms however the ball is a bit of a distance from the barrel. in the above photo of the Ghost bat, the ball is still right on the barrel. Maybe she was early and barrel whipped out to meet it?
Ball is off the barrel. The ball/bat stay in contact longer with a softball than a baseball which would effect when you see the reversal with respect to how far the ball is away from the bat.

Why are we talking about this? ?

" If a stiffer bat is more rigid and does not vibrate as easily, so that less energy is transferred to bat vibrations, then the final ball speed might be higher for impacts away from the sweet spot, than for a flexible bat. "

I always thought this but not I have proof.

"swing at top of ball' - have seen that a time or two in the posts. Here is some old school that may explain why. Find it totally amazing.

No, you have it correct. The hands happen to be where the feel of the torque is sensed the most. I think of "handsy" as being floppy, loose hands that don't transfer the torque of the arm movements efficiently.
I have a problem with the idea that the bat should be held loosely. I much prefer a death grip and the oar lock approach. I know I'll spend hours explaining it to all the knuckleheads here, but I see it as a power movement and loose hands allow too much slack.
The barrel dump is loosing the grip required to apply the torque.
The chopping down movement that Bonds promotes is the death grip that I'm talking about. The other fix is to use your legs and shoulders more.

So I am going to go out on a limb and say others are having this issue with TTB and Active vs Passive hands discussion simply because this is how I've been interpreting things.

What we just agreed on (ie TTB is due to Actively slotting the elbow and the hands keeping the elbow to bat relationship), I've considered Passive hands.

When I was trying to "Actively" use my hands (and causing the barrel dump), my hands were forcing the barrel to rotate backward forcing the elbow slot. Feel vs really maybe? I don't know.

I feel like there is a difference between the elbow slotting and the hands & barrel following VS the hand forcing the barrel back and the elbow following.

I understand an agree that you can hold a bat too loosely, but there does need to be an overall relaxed-ness to let the pulling muscles pull.
