All I can say is that what the umpires told us, and I've been at many games where the plate is either muddy or its a little wet out side and the umpires told both teams sliding only, I'm not an umpire I don't know. passing on a experience that I thought might be worth filing away for some. I to was in the slide only when necessary camp but just not so sure at home now. seen some sprains caused by sliding but never a foot twirling around held on only by the skin. everyone is free to do what they want.

Then your umpires are idiots. You tell a player they have to slide and they get hurt? Hello, lawsuits. And it isn't within the umpire's authority to coach people on how to play the game save warnings for illegal or unsportsmanlike actions.

I heard back on the status of the other player who hurt her knee and also went to the hospital. Good news is that it's not an ACL. Bad news is that it's a hyper-extension. She is seeing a specialist today.

Geez it was a rough day on the field. And I was thinking it was in great shape. :(

Good luck to your DD's 12U team. They are a well coached group of girls. Just out muscled this weekend, from what I saw, when they played up.

Oh gosh, that sounds awful, the poor girl! :( I hope she heals well.

DD has played in tournaments with a slide-home rule. Although my understanding of why they made this rule was to stop the batters being hit by balls thrown in by the catcher. Eg- running to home on a wild pitch/passed ball and the catcher retrieves the ball and throws it to someone covering the plate. Apparently last year a catcher did a hard throw in this scenario and it hit the batters eye socket and did some extreme damage :(.

And how the heck is a slide rule going to stop that? Besides, how did any batter or runner get hit in the eye socket by a thrown ball? Facemasks for batters and runners are mandatory in any rule set I am aware of with the exception of NCAA.

Then those tournament folks are just as dumb as the aforementioned umpires.

BP,

Just got an email from L's coach sent to our team. Everything set perfect. She's in a cast and she's only out for 2 - 2-1/2 months and should heal normally without surgery. That seems like the best outcome I heard.

Not sure where you umpire, MTR, but God has less authority than some blues I've had to deal with in Southern California.
