Watching a middle school game which I believe was playing by NFHS rules.
Home team started with 8 players (can you do that in NFHS?) and took an automatic out in the 9th spot.
Final inning and the home team is down two runs and has runner on first with two outs. The eighth spot comes up to bat. Conferences by both coaches one talking to the batter the other talking to his pitcher.
First pitch and it's a HBP and the umpires call the game (assuming the automatic out was up next for the third out).
I say there is no way that's possible as in most rule sets you can't walk the batter (or hit them) to get the automatic out with two outs.
I swear both coaches misunderstood the rule and that the one coach told the pitcher to hit the batter with the first pitch.
What say you?
