She is throwing a curve ball. It can be thrown in different ways. Monica Abbott throws her curve staying under the ball, while Jennie Finch is turning over her hand which can add some drop action in addition to curving.

It is much simpler to keep the same motion and easier for the body to replicate than to have different motions for different pitches. It also can be a trigger to the hitter that a certain pitch is coming.

I agree. Which is why I pulled my daughter out of lessons over two years ago. The day after my Hillhouse dvd arrived:D

Release point

Many folks are mistakenly under the impression that every pitch has the same release point. They do not.

The farther forward the release point is (normally) the farther forward the throwing shoulder will get.

The more exaggerated the wrist action is right at release, the farther forward the release point normally comes and, again, the farther forward the shoulder will come forward.

There is no set rule for release points, shoulder motion, etc.
