Dad, Husband....legend
Some of you know that lil DD joined a pretty competitive team about 6 weeks ago. She knew she might have to sit a lot and the goal was to earn a lineup spot by the end of the season. She was really nervous about whether or not she was good enough to even be on the team since they are so good too to bottom. She did well in some friendlies, had some spotty hitting in others but generally trended up and has been hitting well. They had day 1 of the first tourney today (her first TB tourney) and she was a bundle of excited nerves for the last couple of days. She was prepared to sit all weekend but come game time she was right there in the 7 hole. Went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs. But the fun part was in the third game-she sat the first part of the game but it was pretty close so they subbed her back in at the end and she led off the last inning with a base hit and the next batter knocked her in with a triple for an insurance run. This tourney is just a TCS glorified friendly, but half the teams in it are going to PGF so the competition is really good for 10s. I am really in awe of this kid, she just keeps rising to the occasion.
On a side note- a shout out to NorCal and central Ca. 4-5 teams made the drive from as far as Sacramento and they are little ballers. I was really impressed with how good all these 9-10 year old kids can play this game. Can't wait until tomorrow.
PS-on the ride home she kept asking about whether or not they give out trophies. Being the great, wise father I am, I told her just to have fun and take it one at bat at a time and play good D on every pitch and good results will come. "Focus on the process, and good results will take care of themselves". I said in my best Ward Cleaver tone. I was actually mentally patting myself on the back for giving her really good advice that she can apply to all areas of life all through adulthood when she said "meh....I just really want that trophy".
