My DD is in here 2nd Year travel 8u which is still coach pitch. Currently she uses a 31/22 aluminum bat and she has to me good bat speed and hits the ball well(again with coach pitch) and I am looking to get another bat for this spring and hopefully to use next year on the 10u level. Right now she is about 4’11 about 115 solid.

My question is if I get another 22 ounce bat will that be too heavy for a kid that will be making the transition from coach pitch to kid pitch?

Also for the Bigger 10u girls what bat size are they using now a days?

dgat, I am all for heavy bats, but I have never seen an 8yo that can swing a 31/22. A 30,20 might be too big. For the bigger 10s a 31,21 might be too big, so I would start with a 30,20. Let them learn to hit, before spending much money on an expensive bat. They are mostly concerned with the color at that age.

If you have money to spend, find a good hitting coach and then, get her a great bat when she is 10. Good luck and have fun.

I find that funny. :)

Bat does seem a little big. I would go to a couple 10U games and see how fast they are throwing. Depending on the area you might be supprised how fast the can throw the ball.

That seems a bit big for an 8yr old... but IMHO...you should use the heaviest bat you can AS LONG AS HER FUNDAMENTALS AREN'T COMPROMISED...
If she can stay short to the ball, and keep a level swing that is a quick, then its irrelevant. But as a very generic rule of thumb... the bat is usually the length of her pant leg inseam plus one inch.

Thanks Amy for the reply

For the last two spring for the last year of her 6U and the first year of 8u she has been using 31/21.

Here is an 8u at bat that went over the fence but the fence was about 115-120

Granted, it's just from one swing, but that bat seems way too heavy for this player. Her hands drop about 2 feet during the swing.

BTW, did everyone survive the earthquake?

You can tell she's a strong kid, but I agree with darken, her hands drop quite a bit...and that pitch was sure one slow rainbow. I'd like to see that coach starting to put more zip on his pitches and flatten them out too, to help the girls get ready.

A 30/20 is usually a "big" bat for first year 10U, with the smaller girls not being able to handle it.

I want to know what everyone is feeding their kids. When my DD was 8, she used a 28/18, barely. She's 16 now, 5'3" 115 lb and uses 33/23 or 33/24.
