DD decided to attend a Senior Clinic at a d3 school that is fairly close to us to get some more work in. They have a great coaching staff and won the national title a few years ago. Only 25 girls attended. It was interesting that the first thing the HC said was she wanted to make sure no one was under 10th grade. I thought this was interesting because the camp was advertised a preparation for the high school season, so what's the big deal. Another observation was that out of 25, there were only three 3rd basemen, and one left at the beginning for some reason. At the end of the clinic, it turns out that 7 of the girls were already committed to play for them in the fall. They left for a discussion with the AC and a couple others including DD's teammate were asked to talk with another AC. Finally, the HC said that only juniors come talk to her and the rest could leave.
We waited outside and DD's teammate ran out teary eyed and said she just committed for the fall and it was always a dream to play there. It was quite emotional and we were thrilled for her. It was an interesting evening especially because we just thought it was going to just be another skills clinic.
