NCAA Potentially Increasing # of Softball Scholarships for D1 Schools to 25 (up from 12)

I wonder how many non-power 5 schools can afford to fund 25 softball scholarships. I am thinking the over/under should be set at 0.5%. What do you all think?

Hmmm,

Mining gold?
Mafia strong arming?

not sure what this would do to help anything become more balanced other than separate all of those colleges to something other than what should
no longer be called D1.

Maybe the ones who can afford that it should be a separate division called D1"GOLD"

Haves versus have nots. That is for sure. My alma mater, ECU, will definitely do all they can to fund the 103 (or how many the NCAA will allow) football scholarships. I am sure no money will go to fund the additional increase to softball. This, I believe, will lead to lawsuits per Title IX.

I believe the required parity is with baseball.

I wonder if the mid major conferences will put limits in themselves. The Ivy league can not offer any athletic scholarships. So schools could join the conference that is at their desired level and keep the playing field equal for their conference.

Also wonder how this will change portal usage. If fully funded will take only the studs from high school then fill roster from mid major schools offering them a full ride.

Also will schools allow scholarships to be stacked if your on a full scholarship?

Lots of questions to be answered with this change but I think it’s great for the sport.

There's a lot of D1 schools who don't even fund the 12 available to them now, never mind going to 25. Providence, for example, only had 10.5 scholarships available. AND they aren't allowed to stack the ones they have, meaning they cannot combined athletic and academic monies for athletes. And Providence almost gave zero academic money!!! At least not for softball.

Anyway, this is just the latest "rich get richer" thing for softball, similar to how only the top teams can afford the 4th assistant. Unfortunately I don't have any better answers to the situations about how to balance the game.

So it looks like this is really happening. I think things are about to get crazy for 2025s.

The top 25’s are already recruited. Their deals might be changing before nli signing day

That's just it--they're not signed. There are going to be a significant number of decommitments, and the talent is going to push up the chain. There is going to be a lot of movement. Fully funded schools are going to go from an average of 3 scholarships per class to over 6! They are going to accumulate talent, with big shockwaves resulting.
