The culture of softball is different than baseball. Hype starts with the dugout chants they learn in rec ball. In TB, you'd better be on the dugout fence and cheering for your teammates every second, or you're running poles. These ladies are pretty excited when they get to the biggest stage they will (probably) ever play on. Totally justified, IMO.

Personally, I wish baseball would show a little more enthusiasm. That said, I do appreciate the fact that my DD's TB team is pretty mellow (by TB standards) in the dugout, and the coaches don't force them to scream constantly, like some coaches do.
Yeah but I see this on every hit even during regular season. They hype is so much that it takes away from the game as a spectator. It’s hard to hear commentators over the non stop dugout chanting. They need to turn the mics down for the on field actions.

I'm not sure this is a "have to act like ladies" thing. It's more of a personal preference regarding culture in sports. I'm more of a Barry Sanders touchdown celebration fan, not Terrell Owens. Showing emotion on the base paths is great, but I'm not impressed by any athlete, male or female, stomping on home plate and jawing about it in front of the catcher or standing on 2nd base and screaming at the top of their lungs back to the dugout. Both Oklahoma specialties.

As others have said, it's not my game so it's not my decision and I can choose not to watch. I'm impressed by the athleticism of the players but this is simply a part of the game I don't enjoy.

A base hit against some of these pitchers is an accomplishment. I’ve seen Fouts and Garcia in person, behind home plate this year, and I’d be the first person in line volunteering to flex.

As someone with a daughter, please PLEASE get out of the way and let these girls have their game. Girls are already told to take up less space/act like “ladies” far too often.

If the ladies that play this game seem to find a way to be hyper-competitive and still celebrate one another then we should probably all take several seats and shut up about it.

It’s almost always people who haven’t done it who I see telling other people to act like they’ve done it before

Sorry but if you have a daughter playing of course you’re going to defend that nonsense. I was hoping for responses from casual fans not die hard mommy and daddies.

If you’re looking for casual fans, don’t post on a message board that specifically serves fast pitch players and parents. Athletes in any sport don’t play sports for your pleasure.

You’re not looking for discussion, you’re looking for validation of your trash take.

As a baseball guy it took me a while to get used to the hype associated with softball. It was an adjustment. That said, I now enjoy it to a certain extent. Yes, sometimes they get a little carried away for my taste. And yes, baseball could use more of it. Somewhere in between would be perfect for me.
Thanks for an adult and non defensive response sir! Finally someone who can have a normal discussion.

Agreed the modern athlete doesn’t play for the fan, they play for themselves and the money/fame. Good point.
