Uh oh, pretty sure I offended an entire team of 18U young ladies this weekend, why didn't you guys warn me?
You know, my initial post here was a joke, I didn't call a single one of my girls this weekend honey, not once, and in Atlanta where I feel it's very okay to use the word honey!
In the normal course of coaching, terms of endearment are not okay.
I do use ladies/girls a lot. In that particular example, I'd've probably said something like "ooooh, girl! we just did 50 of those in practice last week! Guess we'll do some more this week!"
I will echo the geographical thing though. I'm a northerner, but spent a good amount of time in the Carolinas and Florida. I'm more likely to notice if someone doesn't call me Hon down there. But I notice it, probably because I'm a northerner, and it's jarring to my ears.
If I do call someone Honey, Sweetie, Baby, Boo, or something along those lines it's because maternal instinct has kicked in. Someone's hurt. Or their feelings are. I don't know if it's okay, but it slips out when I'm trying to express sympathy.
@Cannonball @jdint I don't know where the Horseshoe is but I'd meet and buy a cold one too. I'm ok with honey tooGood post. After all this lockdown stuff is over, I'll meet you at the Horseshoe and buy you a cold one. You can even call me Honey if you want.
The only thing I am saying is that if somebody tells me they have a problem with it I am not going to question how they are feeling regardless if I would feel the same wayFunny how the one’s railing against the old school losers that won’t listen are doing exactly what they are accusing us of doing. You are right and if we don’t believe it then we are the problem. You are the ones sexualizing the word and then claiming we have the problem. Because you don’t like it then that is the final word, whatever. When you make up stupid, off topic scenarios you lose the argument. When someone calls my 11 year old honey she finds it hilarious and jokes about it, some of you would do well to act like sn 12 year old sometimes.
I think most of us feel the same wayThe only thing I am saying is that if somebody tells me they have a problem with it I am not going to question how they are feeling regardless if I would feel the same way
