I would consider a degree that leaves one unfulfilled as a dead-end degree - at least on a personal level.
Yet we're so preoccupied with forcing kids to decide at such a young age.

And I'll find piles of 24 hour news stations, social media algorithms, and school guidance counselors that don't care as long as you have earnings potential.

Biggy was right. Mo Money, Mo Problems. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

You could go to Starbucks and ask the buristas what their degree was in.
I know a while back investment companies (Vangaurd, Fidelity, etc.) would hire anybody with any degree. I was basically cold calling and if you didn't produce they let you go. Cold calling sales takes great communication skills that many of our youth lack. They rather text their friend than talk to them.

🤣 I am?! I think I even mentioned upstream somewhere that i didn’t care what major my kids chose - just as long as they had a plan. So no, didn’t force anything.

I will only caution that the end game may not simply be that expensive piece of paper. Being around people with those same passions is networking.

What never gets discussed is fulfillment. My degree isn't going to show up on anyone's dead-end list. Yet I'm unfulfilled. Only thing I think I did right was not acquire debt to get it. Not everyone wants fancy cars or big houses. If someone is content to live within the means of what the market will bear for something, the problem lies with the person passing judgement.
As a HS teacher who has a B.S. in Math, I totally understand where you are coming from. My math ability would have garnered me much more money had I gone that route, but I love teaching. It fulfills me. I see a lot of high school students go off to college and major in a topic, say British Literature, because it interests them. Problem is, outside of teaching, there really isn’t any jobs out there for many of those majors. At least not jobs in that field.

Yes I asked you to continue your thought of what was a dead end degree. Because you didn't offer an answer... that part of the conversation ended with you. And you were vague on purpose LOL LOL LOL
LOL freaking hilarious! 😂

Maybe I was vague because unlike some people (and I am not referring to Towny) I’m a bit more classy and don’t feel the need to try to make others feel bad or insult them on a public discussion board. I provide ways in which people can look up the info on their own if they so choose.

I don’t take offense to stuff like that anyway, but I should clear up that I was in no way insulting those majors. I just believed there are better ways to pursue careers in those areas than college.

Your post did not come across as insulting at all.

For those who don’t like links, here’s the list of 2022 Big 12 Academic All conference majors. There’s 73 players from seven teams. This represents about half of the players in the conference. It’s not all of D1, but it’s a pretty good sample size that shows you can major in pretty much anything while playing softball.
