Local rec league just started 6U to keep the girls separate from the boys at the tee ball age. This is coach pitch, then tee.
Recently they entered 8U in a county wide machine pitch league. Very competitive rec ball with 17 teams. Machine is set at 37 mph and when the kids connect that ball really flies. Had an 8YO last year hit two balls to the fence on a HS diamond in the same game. The good thing is that it gets them used to hitting a flat pitch so they are more prepared for fast kid pitches at 10U. Kids get better swings at an early age.
Have two girls, one came up through 8u doing coach pitch, the other machine pitch. Wish the older one had done the machine at that age.
