Oh, well. Here is info on Pac 12 players. Didn't realize that only 9 of 12 schools in the Pac 12 fielded softball teams. Southern Cal and Washington State do not. And one other school that I can't identify because I grew up when it was the Pac 8 and can't keep up with all this expansion. :)

Number of players by height:

56 percent of Pac 12 players are from California, and 32 percent of Pac 12 + SEC players are from California.

There are almost as many Pac 12 players from the city of Elk Grove, Calif. (7) than from the states of Oregon (10) or Washington (9). Four Pac 12 players are graduates of Sheldon High in Elk Grove – 3B Danielle Henderson, P/1B Jolene Henderson and C/INF Lindsey Ziegenhirt of Cal and P Alexis Cooper of Arizona State.

Until Karissa Hovinga Oregon has not had a player East of the Rockies in AT LEAST 15 yrs. Maybe longer. Whe you start looking at numbers you can see why. California pop. around 37 million. It would take OKlahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Texas to equal that many. And not to mention the weather in SoCal for year round ball. I read, not sure how true it is. 75% of DI ball players come from West of the Mississippi but 75% of colleges that offer softball are East of the Mississippi. Cali, Tx, Az put out tons due to sheer numbers. Throw in Wa, Or, Ok, Mo, Ne, and Ks there are a lot of kids that play from plains to the gulf. If true, pretty cool fact.

The other Pac-12 school without softball is Colorado....

Correct - we're hoping that changes in the near-ish future. They don't have a baseball team, either. Softball/baseball fields are in surprisingly short supply here. My son's baseball team has had to reschedule many many games due to the cold spring - I was joking with some parents that the season will HAVE to end when the Sparkler begins; there will be no more fields!!

Thanks for the info CB - great stuff!

CO has too wild of weather during the spring to have BB & SB teams. A real close friend of mine in CO Springs brags on FB one day that it's 90°. Then the next day he's whining about the 1' of snow. :D
