This sounds like a nightmare to deal with. It takes the integrity out of HS sports. I assume this sort of thing happens a lot?
Absolutely. High school team is basically the head coaches travel team. And our school is almost 1000 students over capacity....how do you justify transfers in that scenario?

I will say the Florida teams on this list are legit although with the new scheduling setup in Florida the number of easy games has gone down. Trenton will actually have to play a much more challenging set of opponents this year - last year they legitimately only played 5 or 6 tough opponents (although they did win all those games). In the end Trenton will win their class by 10+ runs again since they play in a small school division.

That said, there are several Florida teams that have excellent chances of beating the other Florida teams listed in their class. Florida has a bunch of stacked HS teams that they are now forcing to play each other way more often. DD's team had one of the teams on the ropes last season only for them to figure out a way to lose.
So the state does scheduling in Florida? In Indiana our athletic directors schedule all games for all sports until the state tournament. (except for tennis and that is a whole different story).

It is complex.

FHSSA this year removed all the district games in-season games so a lot of forced blowouts were removed from the schedule. They also put in place a ranking requirement uisng Maxpreps for how districts were seeded plus how some teams moved on in tough districts (so a couple of highest ranked team move on even if they lose because they ranked highly). This incentivises stronger teams to play other strong teams to improve their ranking.

Some counties and areas it is the AD's and coaches setting the schedules with some oversight.

In several counties, the county schools athletics are centrally scheduling all the in-county matchups and then leaving 5 or so games plus tournaments to the AD/coaches. Our local county divided the teams into 3 tiers; you have to play everyone in your tier plus you can play teams in the tier above or below you; so tier 1 plays all tiers 1's + a group of tier 2's but no tier 3's. Tier 2 play all tier 2 + some tier 1 and some tier 3 and tier 3's play all tier 3's + some tier 2's but no tier 1's. For tier 1's it is great - DD's school is in tier 1 and every game except 2 should be competitive. In the previous years schedule, we had roughly 11 non-competitive games.

Our HS schedule is brutal this year in Fl. out of 27 games all but 4 are against preseason ranked teams by Fl Miracle Sports. Our team was nationally ranked for the past 4 seasons and was right up there with LR, We battled with them a couple of times. This season, we lost two D1 pitching horses from last year, but we got a killer defense with speed and power. It will be an interesting season, hope they stay healthy for a final four run and a 4-peat Kissimmee Klassic
