About half of our TB team wants to pick up some extra play in rec this fall. They want to play up in 14u (they are currently 12u), but the league won't allow them to play up. Playing 12u rec does not appeal to them, so they will pass. And that is why rec is dying.
They should join the league as players and get drafted. A 12U TB team against a 14U rec team is a mismatch. Join and get players split up so you can at least have some good games.About half of our TB team wants to pick up some extra play in rec this fall. The travel coaches can put the rule in their team contract if they so desire. The other issue is conflicts. Girls will miss almost half the rec games if they also play Travel.
Our daughter doesn't play rec for this reason - she is a pitcher! But if you play travel ball, you cannot pitch or catch on a rec team. Silly if you ask me!!I know most users on this site are involved in travel ball, rather than rec leagues, but if you know the rules of your rec league, please respond.
The reason I ask is because my DD plays outfield on a select team, but wants to pitch. I signed her up for the local rec league, but was told she’s ineligible to pitch because she plays select ball. Never mind the fact that she’s never even pitched batting practice on her select team, much less in a game. This seems absurd to me, but maybe it’s common practice?
