Hello Im wondering if anyone knows if a player can play select and rec ball at the same time. Our league is now requiring players to also play rec, the rec girls are not too happy about it. And also, what will happen when select plays a tourney, will the rec ball not get their Saturday game?

It probably really depends on where you are located and what sanction you are playing under. We used to play for USA Softball (So Cal) and there were rules around playing select ball. We could only have 1 select practice a week or a game (double header), but not both. It was not supposed to interfere with the rec schedule.

it is all local rules. You can play on as many teams as you want for the most part. There is some stupid post-season stuff around Little League but for the most past it is up to the local orgs themselves.

A lot of local orgs try to force the travel/select players to play rec to keep numbers up and have some skill in the rec leagues - but since travel is now all year round, the travel girls and teams just left these org for some org not forcing it. It killed rec for a number of years in a lot of areas, but there is some resurgence as it turns out travel isn't a good place to be playing your first game of softball and there lacked a place to get the next group of travel players.

Our org does a kind of mix. Travel girls don't have to play rec in Fall, but 10U and 8U travel players have to for spring/summer and it is optional for 12U. But they also play up an age group. For example it gives 12U a mix of new but older players and a bunch of experienced, but younger players, It kind of evens it out. It also gives our 8U and 10U travel players an opportunity o play lots of other positions, pitch some more and so on. This has worked well for us - and we have some of the strongest rec and travel teams around since we have first shot at a much larger pool to start pulling our travel teams from.

We work closely top ensure game conflicts are limited - during Spring where we have both travel and rec players in rec, we play a lot of rec on Friday and Monday - we also have enough teams to play within the park, so we will often play mid-week as well. Fall where there is no travel players in rec we play lots of Saturdays

Where we live (metro ATL), Select/all star players also have to play rec. Rec games are on Saturday and all star double headers on Sundays during the spring.
