We were on the road at one conference school and I was told about this dad from the other team. One dad said that I needed to be prepared for what he might say about my dd. Well, he said it and I walked over and invited him to go to the parking lot. One of our dads is a lawyer and he told me that he'd get my bail and take my case for free. LOL We didn't go to the parking lot and when my dd came up again, I walked over and stood by him. Apparently, he was the grandfather of one of the girls on the other team and when she graduated, he didn't attend any more games.

Grandfathers can be some of the worst offenders from Rec league on up. Some people really lose their filter as they get older.

From what I've seen, opposing teams and their fans are usually pretty polite. I've had nothing but good conversations with visiting parents, players, and occasionally coaches. The only time I've seen insults lobbed at players was by a small group of obnoxious students, and that's rare. I did recently see an opposing team "fan" get really vocal with an umpire. After a brief one-way conversation with a nearby group of football players, he suddenly went quiet.

What!!!! My FILTER IS DOING GREAT. At a Halloween tourney I tried dressing up as a blind Umpire with a cane. My DD coach shut me down.

Since when did this become ok??

Since travel ball became pay to play. I'm not bagging on D3 players (my daughter was one), but many D3 players are those leftover pay-to-play travel ball players that wanted to keep playing or just wanted to say they played in college.

Many are also upstanding, talented players!

Many of the parents belong to the players in the former category, not the latter.

It was 4-5 guys all standing together yelling out to our players.

I’d guess I’d somewhat understand that more if they were a lower-level team but this team is a conference contender year after year and typically makes the NCAA tournament.

Absolutely. And they lose their hearing so when when they are griping about an error, a slumping batter, a pitcher, or an umpire, it's usually loud enough for everyone around to hear it. Dad is my daughter's biggest fan, and although he does have astute insight into the game, we often had to ask him to tone it down. It's even better when they sit near the go-pros so it's all recorded.

My daughter is in college now and she tells me some of the more egregious comments from the opposition and it's like, wow. 😵‍💫

One of our pitchers (HS) was being taunted by what I like to refer to as the "boyfriends and brothers" section at an away game. They don't know this girl. She'll flat-out confront anyone. She's been talked out of confronting a couple umps. She seems to know her limit at that point. But with the B&B section, she walked right up to them in the middle of the inning and taunted them back and asked them to step out on the field with her. They shut right up and everyone cheered. Then she struck the last batter out and gave them another stare down.

There's really only one team around here that typically has rowdy parents. The team usually sucks. Their coach (gone now) is always barking and complaining about one thing or another. Things got pretty hot there last year. One of our team dads got ejected by the ump and escorted back to his vehicle by a cop, and he wasn't even the one who made the comment that made it happen. He's one of the least vocal of all of us.

My favorite are the parents that are coaching during plays. Screaming to throw it to 2B or whatever. Happened at a MS game I attended last night. They basically created a 3 error infield sequence that was about to end with a throw to the pitcher.

Our HS parents are a pretty chill bunch. We'll even buy pizzas for the teams that travel a long way to play us. We get a lot of comments on our kindness. There's no room for anything else in sports as far as we're concerned.
