totally agree....the author of the "Livestrong" site has to be a complete idiot to write such absolute crappy advise and reasoning....metal cleats are far superior to rubber or plastic for traction and wouldn't make a bit of difference in an ankle injury IMO....

also, so sorry to hear of a HS season ending due to an injury....

Learning, during my dd's ankle injury last year the specialists also recommended against wearing a brace because it gives confidence with movement but doesn't ensure the ligaments heal right...blah blah.

DdDreturned with no pain or in less then 3 weeks, it was a little stiff her first few runs. We used a brace because 1) fields were iffy, and 2) ankle injuries are repetitive-in my experience.

How's she doing, in the meantime? Bucket swings?

Jr, the first time she went back in 3 weeks but still had some soreness and swelling but they (PT) said that was normal. This time we will wear the the brace in games.
What exactly are bucket swings? We are concentrating on Austin's progression of throwing drills along with some infield drills from a local college coach she takes lessons from. Most of these can be done on the "bucket." We'll add in some "one hop drills" and batting drills that can be done on her knees. She'll also play some Flash Focus and do some other visual training drills.
I'm definately keeping her busy:)

DD just got back from the Orthopedic Specialist. She is allowed to take off the boot (has been 3 weeks), but she was not cleared to play. She really wanted to play this Saturday against the only undefeated JV team in the area. She did great against them last time but we still lost. It is the last JV game of the season:( She's allowed to practice, but is limited in what she can do for 3 more weeks. She's really bummed out because she probably won't get in any Varsity games either.
