The obvious solution here is to find a pitcher who likes starting and throwing to exactly one batter. Then your DD can come in "in relief" for the second batter of the game and go the rest of the way.

Ha! - I like this idea. Or at least a pitcher who only likes to pitch one inning to start then doesn't want to pitch anymore. This could work...........

I used to wish we could start games in the 3rd inning since the first 2 were usually my worst. ha ha ha.

was only meant to be a joke RAD. But, there are several things that can make the first 2 innings the worst for any pitcher. In no particular order: getting used the ball for the game, getting used to the ground conditions, getting used to the umpire's zone, and good old fashioned nerves.
