Be a ball player. Pitching is the only real specialty position. You want to get ABs be versatile.
as a parent of a C, I disagree (blocking, framing, pitch calling, transitions, throwing from knees, no look throws to 1sr or 3rd. 1B to some extent as well. picking balls out of the dirt on the hop and holding the bag as you do it is a skill.
I do agree that if you can hit, coaches will generally find you a spot. and I think everyone should be versatile enough to play at least two positions (and not SS and 2B). also some positions require things not all players have (especially at younger ages, not every girl has arm strength to play 3B/C).
