I understood it was HS....but even HS's have a governing set of rules to go by....unless they wrote thier own I guess....but if you were the opposing teams' HC you wouldn't have argued that the ball went out of the the field of play and should be counted as a home run?....and of course the second was good, she stayed in and so did the ball.....and I am not trying to be argumentative with you...just wondering....

But in any case thanks for sharing the story....I love how the girl was "over whelmed" with excitement for her big day....

Interesting...guess I'll look up the rule:

NCAA rules:

For a legal catch:
9.1.1 A fielder must catch and have secure possession of the ball before stepping,
touching or falling into a dead-ball area.
9.1.2 A fielder who falls over or through the fence after making a catch shall be
credited with the catch.
9.1.3 A fielder does not need to re-establish herself in live-ball territory after
contacting dead-ball territory before contact with the ball as long as she
maintained contact with live-ball territory and is no longer in contact with
dead-ball territory.

The first catch was very close. It looks like her toe was touching the ground in the field of play when the ball hit her glove.
