DD is a 1st year 14U pitcher who begin pitching when she was a 9/10. We used to throw 75-100 pitches 3-4 times/week until the arm circle and release point became consistant (about 90 days). From there it was pitching in a game or throwing 3x week.
In 12U - offseason it was 1 lesson/week and 2 practice sessions as she was learning other pitches (CU, drop and screwball), which required the work. During the season she would pitch 2-3 times per week, with a max of 2 timed games in one day.
This past offeseason it was 1 lesson and 1/2 pracice sessions as at the end of last season DD just wore down. Pitching was fine but her hitting suffered due to mechanics breaking down due to fatigue.
DD's club team has 4 pitchers, so no one will need to go more than 2 timed games in one day.
At then end of each game day, we ice down the shoulder and elbow. This helps greatly with recovery time and reduces inflammation. Ibuprophen (Motrin) is only used if required to revieve discomfort, not to relieve inflammation.
