Depending on rules set, ASA requires dead ball appeals to be made by an infielder. FED allows appeals to be made by the coach.

Right. Thanks for the clarification. USSSA allows the coach or any defensive player to make the dead ball appeal as well. Same with PONY (coach, manager or player with or without the ball may make a verbal appeal).
