    Mound improvements between innings.

And waste so much more time explaining it to a coach who knows better. SMH.

    Another obstruction, what's your call?

Minor correction: Obstruction was called by PU, the runner was called out by U1 at home. The crew awarded the runner home.

ERA is normalized to 7 innings.

Tournament weekend, rules questions (and willing to be wrong)

Speaking USA: If the wrong courtesy runner is placed on 2nd, put the correct one out there. Case book: PLAY 5.11-2 (Female and Men 40 & 45-O FP Only) In the eighth inning, an incorrect runner is at 2B to start the inning. The incorrect runner steals 3B. The umpire is notified of the incorrect...

Out of the batters box rule in High School (NFHS)

Wrong mechanic if he's using NCAA. ETA:

    College DP / Flex Rule

As TMiB states, the coach has to start with a DP/Flex lineup. To SBmom8992's question, the starting pitcher and her replacement do not have to be in the DP/Flex spots, although it's commonly done that way.

    College DP / Flex Rule

As CoachJD alludes, the box score in question makes more sense if Torres is the DP and, at the plate meeting, she moves into F9 and Lee becomes the OP. I have not seen designation in the play-by-play for a player becoming OP, just musical chairs for position changes. The <crappy> broadcast...

    Pinch Runner for a substitution???

Substitutes are allowed for substitutes and they are tied to the starter's slot in the batting order. Starters have one re-entry if it has not been previously used. Substitutes may re-enter if they have re-entry rights, i.e, if it's allowed by code and has not been used (e.g. USA, NFHS.)

A thread for the umps...what would you do’s, oddball plays, war stories

Runners return to the last base touched at the ... time of the interference. (USA 8.2.H, NFHS 8-2-5) ... time of the pitch. (NCAA)

    Pitch bounces then hits batter

What's the ball status? It's still a pitch, albeit wild.

Should umpires signal/announce a fair ball?

Which code? Not all codes use this mechanic.

    Umpire Makes Catcher Change Helmet

And that right there is the answer. Throat protection.

    Avoiding hit strike

Catcher doesn't yank that pitch. No sir!

What's the college rule on this ...

I saw it. I understand your point. I don't think the software "they" are using has a proper label for substitutions and position changes, particularly a player going to offense only in softball. Looking through box scores, you'll often see PR, PH, and even DH. The "Software" is made for...
