My DDs coach was a college catcher. He's an outstanding pitch caller and she is much better with him there. There are coaches that track data, see practice swings, stances, and posture, know situations and relate to the pitcher. This is a decided advantage. I don't think it should be underestimated though certainty he is uniquely good at it. I've also seen uniquely bad. It matters.I don’t think the coach pitch caller would do any better than a random pitch generator or the pitcher calling her own pitches. It would still come down to pitcher execution.
