Agree with what you are saying here... not directed towards you, just want to point out that just because a hitter is making an adjustment does not disqualify bat drag if bat drag is evident in the swing. And, bat drag IMO is not the best way to adjust(stay back on a change up) and should be something that is worked on since hitters get fooled all the time.
Agree, that is not the best way to do it and how to do it should be worked, but like the gif I'm pretty sure you are referencing, that was a last ditch effort when all else failed to stay back. "Emergency Hack" the ball . Could you say she dragged the bat, and was the elbow underneath? Sure, but really not for very long because of pitch location. Was she trying to drag the bat, I would say No. Again should we look at a swing like that and draw some lines, and say the bat drag needs to be worked on? I would say No IMO

Absolutely! That is bad bat drag and the swing is all arms because that's all she has left to get the job done. I posted other pics where she is on time and there is a little bat drag, but nothing that extreme.

I think that is what @Work=wins is getting at. Of course I don't speak for him, we can't just look at a hitter and just say bat drag is the ultimate issue. If you were her instructor and you saw that, would you immediately tell her your problem is severe bat drag and start trying to keep her from dragging the bat, and start doing drills etc. to eliminate it, or would you look to something else?

These are close to optimal fyb leveraged position before whipping the barrel.. The best hitters will have free hands to adjust for pitches outside (optimal) their zone.. Hitters who attempt to lock the hands to the back shoulder will have adjustment issues.
I agree hands need to be free. TDS, are you saying if a hitter attempts to lock hands to the rear shoulder that they are unable to abandon that position and adjust with their hands to get to a pitch they are fooled on?

No not really, he was saying it was an adjustment and not bat drag. I said it was bat drag likely caused by the fact she was fooled and she needed to make an adjustment. He said he humbly disagreed.

I'm not an instructor, but if bat drag was the most glaring issue in her swing, yes. Generally I think most young hitters should work on perfecting their sequence before anything else.. JMHO

I agree that its not bat drag, in the sense of an mechanical issue that needs fixing, it was an major on the fly adjustment. But none the less she did have to drag the bat to the ball. :p
