I know I said in the 11th and 12th grade I gave her the option, but in all reality there's no way she wouldn't play! She made it clear she loved representing her school, and after we won the 2018 State Championship, the 2019 season was nuts at our home night games!

And that's another great point about HS ball, we have a KILLER ball field, and at our night games, the atmosphere was electric! You could see it in everyone's face when we were playing a rival, God I miss it!

And a little brag if I may......on senior night, it seemed like it took our announcer 5 solid minutes to list her softball awards and accomplishments, proud Daddy moment! You don't see any of that with TB!!

Is school ball travel ball? Heck no, it's not supposed to be! For my DD it was a break from the grind of travel, for me and my wallet also!

The reason for giving her the option......the coaches in the years before!

Why play a sport as a teenager if you don’t want to play for your high school team? Have we completely forgotten the concept of being a student athlete? You will remember a big high school game or state playoff game for the rest of your life. Win or lose. You will never remember a random TB tournament with barely anyone other than parents watching.

The one thing I remember most from HS ball was that the girls on my team were all very different. Some were the popular kids, some were the super smart kids, etc. It was pretty cool to come together and break the clique barriers for a common purpose. It was nice to be able to call them friends after the season was over, something that probably would have never happened if we didn’t play the sport together. We also became fiercely supportive of each other in the off-season.

So glad we don't deal with this situation. We have a great HS program with a long history of state titles and talented players. Back in the time of early verbal we had p5 verbaled freshman that played JV because the varsity roster was full of older signed d1 players. Its not unusual for our program to have every single position filled by a college bound athlete. After reading all this im going to continue to count my blessings.

You want better HS coaches pay them more..

Did some quick calculations. Based on the current pay scale at our school and the estimated hours I put in during the season (and I am ONLY including time spent at the school/at the fields for practices and games, not any time I put in at home on record keeping, scheduling, watching videos, creating practice plans, etc. Also not including any of the time put in during the other nine months of the year.), the pay for a varsity level head coach is right around $10/hour.

This year I tried to get the coaches (everybody else; I've never taken the coaching stipend) at our school paid more. The absolute best I could do was getting very small raises in subsequent years for coaches who continue coaching. What they get now is a joke, and it almost entirely explains why it's so hard to find coaches and the ones we do find aren't interested in putting in the hours needed to develop quality programs.

Our HS coaches start in September 2-3 days per week working with the girls and go all through winter. Our season starts in March and ends late June. Head Coach probably puts over 1,000 hours a year into the sport.
