The "team comes first" and "selflessness" that most colleges demand was taught in high school, not in TB.
Totally agree with this!!

Amen, and I'm not sure I even care about the wisdom part!Look I would like to have the wisdom I have now and the hair (and joints) I had when I was 20..life sucks sometimes.
Why play a sport as a teenager if you don’t want to play for your high school team? Have we completely forgotten the concept of being a student athlete? You will remember a big high school game or state playoff game for the rest of your life. Win or lose. You will never remember a random tournament with barely anyone other than parents watching.
You want better HS coaches pay them more..
You definitely should! After reading all this im going to continue to count my blessings.
Did some quick calculations. Based on the current pay scale at our school and the estimated hours I put in during the season (and I am ONLY including time spent at the school/at the fields for practices and games, not any time I put in at home on record keeping, scheduling, watching videos, creating practice plans, etc. Also not including any of the time put in during the other nine months of the year.), the pay for a varsity level head coach is right around $10/hour.
This year I tried to get the coaches (everybody else; I've never taken the coaching stipend) at our school paid more. The absolute best I could do was getting very small raises in subsequent years for coaches who continue coaching. What they get now is a joke, and it almost entirely explains why it's so hard to find coaches and the ones we do find aren't interested in putting in the hours needed to develop quality programs.
