10U travel ball coach here. First year in 10U. I’ve been seeing several posts of tournaments where the girls are wearing play bands. Not sure about everyone else, but our pitchers throw a fastball and 1/4 of them have a reliable changeup. Am I missing something? Why would 10yo’s need a play band?

10U pitchers mom here. Our pitchers use them. It’s mainly used to prepare them for upper level pitching. He will call inside/outside fastball and change up. One of our pitchers can also throw a drop and screw. Believe it or not, a lot of these young ladies are super talented and can throw 5+ different pitches and the coaches do call pitches in the game. I don’t see it much at all in our area (Southeast LA), but it’s definitely happening around the country! It’s pretty amazing to see.
