There are reasons for choosing to be Visitors in pool play. Saving your pitchers from fatigue is not one of them.

It is a reason just not the reason.

I think if you have a chance of extra innings international tie breaker, you choose home team.
Knowing if you need one or multiple runs is an advantage.
I think the away team needs to play this for 2 runs or pretty much normal.

Sure, but the question (I think) is about pool play - which I've never seen have ITB. Not that a tournament couldn't, I've just never seen it (or if it does have ITB, time always kicks in before you get there).

The OP just said middle school tournament with innings not time limit. I assumed elimination games with ITB could be in effect.
