What is the best drill to keep the girls coming forward "8U", and not backing up on hard hit balls

Not only should they not be stepping back they shouldn't be standing still. They need to step with the left foot and catch the ball in front of them.

Roll them ground balls sitting on a bucket until it becomes a habit.

Maybe not the cure, but I think it does help:
Bunny on a Bucket (or ball on a tee game.) Set up groups of 3 in lines around the infield behind starting cones. Set a bucket with a stuffed animal on home plate (or soccer ball on a tee.) Coaches with buckets of balls are near HP hitting grounders, one at a time to the first girl in each line. Girls can't pass the cone until the ball is hit. After a few, they begin to realize that the harder they charge, the closer they get to the target. Award 3 points for a direct hit, 2 points for a bounce and one point for hitting the bucket (or tee.)
