I agree with everything you said except for this. My DD's coach takes this approach at times and I hate it. The right play is the right play, regardless of whether you have Yadier Molina catching or Yadier Yoddler catching...For example my DD's coach has all the infielders throw home with the bases load and less than 2 outs regardless if they are up 10-0 or not. Yeah I get it, they aren't turning two at that age (10U) but so what..at some point they will be able to turn two and then you have to re-teach them what the proper play is....That particular situation I gave is the one and only time I came close to talking to her HC during a game but then thought better of it...I just talked to my DD the next day and explained to her what I though the proper play should have been (it was hit to the SS..if it was hit to the 1B, 3B or pitcher than I can see how going home may make sense).
DD is 10u, so nothing too tricky. Just typical who covers what base with runners on various bases and ball hit to various areas of the field. Player position on the base to minimize risk of interference calls, etc.
