So every other sport that is timed like basketball, football, soccer etc use clock management as a strategy but somehow if softball has timed games, coaches shouldn't use the clock to gain an advantage because it somehow ruins the spirit of the game or parents don't get to see Suzy get one more at bat?

If it's really the same, why is the debate so divided on the issue? Because it's not the same.

Agree that softball and baseball should not be timed but at the youth level it is almost always a timed game. And if it is timed, smart coaches take clock management into consideration. This has nothing to do about the purity of the game. That went out the window as soon as the clock was introduced for these two sports.

Short answer is let them play in a pool game so they are used to a high stress situation. Bracket play, take the out and hold on defense. Even if you allow one or two runs the next inning you still have your run generating batters coming up. I have seen this situation misplayed before and the coach made the decision to step on the plate when it was bases loaded down by 1 and two outs with 50 seconds left. No excuse for what he did. It was stupid.

Bases loaded is a whole different situation. Your chances are much greater than they would be with two outs, no one on, and only 50 seconds. In the bases loaded situation it's a no-brainer that you try to bring a run in. In the other situation, you get to the next inning the best way you can.

I would love to see the stalling in games stop but with the clock it's just part of the game. For those who condone stalling, does it matter what kind of a game it is. Is it more OK if it's for an ASA berth versus during a 10U rec league game with the 4th and 5th place teams playing?
