I don’t know why I waited to buy this superb ebook. I‘ve told people for over ten years the best money I ever spent on softball was buying the their catching clinic DVD. This is a steal at $199.

My daughter worked with Jay Weaver 3 times. The first time was just before she turned nine at his 4 day summer camp. That summer camp turned her into the out stealing, always thinking two steps ahead, throwing the ball for the next out before the umpire made his call, defensive monster she was during her playing days. She was a superb lefty RF, 1B, and backup catcher, who if she had to could play 3B, 2B, and pitch. Jay Weaver deserves a big part of the credit for turning her into the defensive player she was.

Interested in the camp. Did you think just before age 9 was a good time to attend? Had she played a season or two of 10u before attending for the first time?

Pretty sure my DD was 11 when she took her first of three camps with Jay - worth every penny!

It was an excellent time to attend. Jay and the instructors were excellent with tailoring the drills to her and were very patient with her. I had had the DVD for 3 years prior to her attending and had been teaching my catchers several of what was on the DVD In 8u.

If you want to have pitchers good enough to not have walkfeats in 10u, you need to have catchers who have been taught the Jay Weaver way of catching, IMO.

Rick Pauly giving credit to who really makes pitchers great:

I feel compelled to add to this thread. My DD attended Catching Camp in NH when she was 9 or 10 then again at 12. Also attended a camp in GA. Of all of the instructional camps she has attended these were by far the best organized, most useful, and to this day she uses quite a bit of what she learned in those camps. She has evolved in some technique. So has Jay, but the core of the instruction is solid.

Where is she now? She's a rising Senior at D1 University playing the sport she's loved since the age of 5. She started her college career at a D2 university and captured 1st Team All conference, 1st and 2nd team All region (different orgs) as a Freshman, and 2nd Team All Conference as a Sophomore. Transferred to a D1 University for Academic reasons and is ready to make an impact as a Senior.

If anyone is interested. I have the orginal DVD I ordered years ago when this journey started. I want to share this with the next young athlete ready to start their journey.

Is the DVD still available. I would be happy to buy it from you for my 13 year old daughter

I think I've posted a total of 4-5 times and most of them in relation to The Catching Camp. 2024DD attended multiple times as a younger catcher and is now a student instructor. This camp/content is the best we've seen. Last summer at nationals another team was livestreaming their game against us on YouTube. My parents were watching from across the country & my Mom started texting me that their announcer/parent was going on and on about the opposing catcher's receiving/blocking/throwing ability and general game awareness. It was a nice compliment to hear & all credit to this instructor.

DD is now giving lessons and has almost all of her local kids signed up to attend a camp. Clear, consistent, data-driven instruction every single time from each instructor. She loves being associated with TCC.

Thinking of sending my daughter to this camp next summer (will turn 9 at the end of that summer). She will be transitioning into 10u that fall. Is this a good age to attend to the camp? Or will most of the instruction be too advanced for her? Is there a level of catching competency that the player should have prior to attending the camp?

Never too young to learn the good processes.

Something to consider is that if your DD finds Jay's camp to be good instruction she will likely visit more than once over her playing days. I think my DD found his camps to instill confidence. I know specialized camps are more common today, but when these first came out it was a unique format to see dozens of catchers working on their skills.

My DD attended a local Road Show event back in 2013 she was a 12 yo. I highly suggest you as the parent stay, watch and take notes. You will be able to further instill the drills she learns. This helped shape her as a catcher, and set a new trajectory in her skills. She worked with a few other catching coaches along the way.
