Bit by bit I believe that I am putting together pieces of the "hitting fast pitching" puzzle. The most valuable piece has been going thru the process myself, as detailed in the original post. I strongly recommend that exercise for all coaches.

My latest thought is about combining the mantra that "good hitting is good timing" with the 90/90 position described here:

Making contact at the 90/90 position as described in the video becomes more difficult against faster pitching because the timing gets more difficult. Swing too late and you may be 90/90 but the barrel isn't turned and contact is off the handle, but most likely you'll just whiff (no barrel in the hitting zone). Swing too early and the 90/90 breaks down, robbing power.

Tonight's practice we'll work the 90/90 position off the tee, then angle toss, then live pitching. Focus will be on improving timing to make contact against any speed at 90/90.....
