Need runs?

How would you have handled this situation? Down 3 runs, two on, 1st and 2nd, one out. Small ball to advance the runners or have batter swing?

Swing away. It is always my answer no matter the situation or hitter. ; )

The batter's objective in that situation would be to do what gives her the best chance of reaching base.

Assuming it is very late in the game:
With the tying run at the plate, unless there is ABSOLUTELY NO chance that batter is going to get a hit then they HAVE to swing away to get on base. The fielders can ignore the runners for the most part as they mean little really.

Early in the game - it may depend on whether I feel we are going to develop more chances to score against the opponent or not. If I feel bunting over the runners to give a better hitter a chance to drive them in I may think about it if I feel we are going to get multiple opportunities to score during the game.

Swing away. Ken Krause has posted some statistics on the ability to score runs, bunting at this point.

This. You need base runners. You are not giving up runs. If the hitter has a better chance of getting on base by bunting, that is what you do.

Can't afford to give up any more outs, swing away unless she can't hit and bunting is her best chance at getting on base.
